Why is the United States attacking Venezuela?. Story by Yohann Thiou

Donald Trump justifies his military offensive against Venezuela by the need to protect Americans from fentanyl. The president accuses Nicolas Maduro of heading the "Cartel of the Suns," a drug trafficking network targeting American territory. However, this justification does not withstand scrutiny. Most fentanyl consumed in the United States comes from Mexico, not South America, according to American border authorities themselves.

Washington has designated the Venezuelan criminal group Tren de Aragua as a "terrorist organization" to justify its military strikes. On September 2nd, a US military aircraft bombed a boat suspected of belonging to this gang near Venezuelan waters. American authorities announced that all occupants were killed. However, the United States has never presented concrete evidence that these vessels were actually transporting drugs or were linked to fentanyl trafficking.
